Who can Become a Council Member

At the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on 15 February 2026, an important rule regarding international representation within the Gloster Fancy Canary Council International (GFCCI) was unanimously approved.

Under this rule, each country that organises one or more specialist Gloster shows has the right to nominate one councillor to represent that country within the GFCCI.

Nomination Process
Nominations must be submitted through an existing Council member and must be formally seconded by another councillor present at the meeting.
Once proposed and seconded, the nomination will be presented to the Council for consideration in accordance with the Council’s procedures.

If a country already has a councillor serving on the Council and wishes to appoint a new representative, the nomination will be recorded and an election will take place at the next GFCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Representation within the United Kingdom
Due to the historic development of the Gloster Fancy within the United Kingdom, a slightly different structure applies.
Each recognised Specialist Gloster Club in the UK has the right to nominate one councillor to the GFCCI.

Current Council Structure
Visitors to the website may notice that the Council currently includes more than one representative from certain countries or clubs. This reflects a decision taken during the Extraordinary General Meeting of 15 February 2026.

During that meeting, a motion proposed by Paul Reay recognised the exceptional circumstances surrounding the renewal of the Council. As many experienced individuals had come together in a spirit of cooperation for the good of the Gloster Fancy, it was proposed that all those present should be granted a position at the Council table.

The motion was unanimously approved, creating the current structure of 30 councillors.

Looking to the Future
The GFCCI is currently undergoing an important period of development and renewal. While the present structure reflects the spirit of unity that shaped the February 2026 EGM, the Council remains a democratic body, and its structure may evolve through motions proposed and approved at future General Meetings.

The guiding principle remains clear: to ensure that the Gloster Fancy Canary continues to benefit from cooperation, knowledge, and responsible leadership from breeders and specialists across the international community.
